This was done to meet the minimum required by krauss-maffei. Azl is offering the krauss-maffei ML-4000s model details:Azl brass versions are limited edition. Each locomotive weighed approximately 344,000lbs.

This locomotive is currently going through restoration to bring it back life. Three of each would go to the two railroads. By the late 1960s, American locomotive builders had come up to speed.

In the 1960s, Denver Rio grandee railroad and southern pacific were looking for larger more powerful locomotives.

The Rio grandee and southern pacific worked together on first order of six locomotives. Each unit comes with a spare front truck plow and couplet. These would arrive in the hood unit style. When us manufacturers failed to deliver options, these railroad turned German locomotive manufacturer krauss-maffei for a solution.

In 1963, the sp would order an addition fifteen units. The Rio grandees three locomotives were numbered. The locomotives were turbocharged and couple reach a maximum speed of 70mph.

The locomotives feature directional led lighting and Azl auto latch couplets.

The first six locomotives were built with a cab unit. These were diesel-hydraulic locomotives which a new concept for us roads who accustomed to electric traction motors power.

Krauss-maffei would deliver a 3,540 horse-power, six-axle locomotive, the ml there were visible differences and sp versions.

Today, only one krauss-maffei exists. The prototypes were 65' in length .

Azl brass krauss maffei ML-4000 z-scale sp 9002 locomotive ML-4000Azls first diesel release since 2003 is here. The southern pacific three locomotives were numbers by 1968, krauss-maffei retired.
